5 Best The Oatmeal Comics to Read When Life Sucks – Or, The Oatmeal as a Coping Mechanism

So, my blog, the StonehousePhoto blog, and 4 other websites I manage were all destroyed last week when a server migration went very, very wrong.  I freaked a little (ok, a lot – mostly fueled by my switch to green tea in the afternoons… which is another story), and turned to the most important coping mechanism I have learned in the past few years:

Reading The Oatmeal.

Yes, I agree, server problems aren’t as crappy as when, for instance, someone dies, but hey, sometimes life just sucks.  And coping skills, are coping skills – regardless of the situation.

What is The Oatmeal, you may ask… well, it is THE gold standard when it comes to inappropriate humor.  Sarcasm about running, squirrels, death, the internet, and coffee. All in one glorious, glorious website.  Oh, and The Oatmeal loves Tesla.  Loves.  And hates bad grammar.  Hatesssssss.

Here are my top 5 The Oatmeal comics for when life goes very wrong, and seems to continue to go wrong, regardless of how sunshiny you try to tell yourself it will eventually be… ahem:   {Warning!  A LOT of profanity – and undead parrots}

The Oatmeal Comics for When Life Sucks

And my all time favorite:

Ok, 6 – for my running friends:  The terrible and wonderful reasons why I run long distances. I can’t not include that one ;).

So yes, The Oatmeal is my saving grace.  It’s my go-to for bad days, and my all time favorite coping skill!

Hoping my server issues are done so I can get this show in the road.  So much goodness in store :).

    Dearest Hannah………

    I certainly hope you are doing a 365 Day happenings in a book. I will be one of the 1st to purchase it.
    Sadly, I couldn’t make it to your last speaking engagement. One of these times it will work out.
    Even with difficulties placed in your days, you continue to encourage and inspire me. Of course, I know you inspire so many.
    Blessings your way always.
    karen in Haugen.
